Lippisch Li.P.13A (1944)Designed in 1944 by delta-wing maven Dr. Alexander Lippisch, the P-13A was intended to be a high-performance ramjet-powered interceptor. The craft would have been launched with the help of a liquid fuel rocket motor, then once sufficient speed was achieved, switch to its coal- ...yes, coal... powered ramjet. Early wind-tunnel tests indicated that, should the craft ever be built, it could comfortably handle at speeds upwards of Mach 2.5!
